Seedlings for Change – Community Planting Day

Date: Sunday 29th June 2025

Time: 9.00am – 12.00pm

  • eDNA Project Launch
  • Tools and gloves provided but please bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.
  • Please wear enclosed shoes, long pants, long sleeves and hat

WaCC Meeting – Simplified Catchment Action Plans

Date: Thursday 19th June 2025

Time: 5.00pm for 5.30pm start

Location: Pooh Corner Environment Centre (PCEC) 100 Wolston Rd, Wacol.

  • Be part of developing a Simplified Catchment Action Plan (CAP) — a practical, high-level guide to align the efforts of BCC, WaCC, and other Groups across our local catchments.
  • Our Guest Speaker, Natalie Costanzo, A/Senior Coordinator, Community Conservation Partnerships, BCC
  • This living document will be reviewed every 3–5 years, helping to:
    ✅ Set shared goals
    ✅ Identify gaps
    ✅ Support effective on-ground action
  • Supper provided

World Environment Day Celebration

Date: Sunday 1st June 2025

Time: 8.00am – 12.30pm

Location: Pooh Corner Environment Centre, 100 Wolston Rd Wacol.

  • Hosted by WaCC and funded by Cr Sarah Hutton, Jamboree Ward.
  • Free BBQ and coffee van

Planting for Platypus – Reviving our Riverbanks Together

Date: Sunday 25th May 2025

Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Spine St Park, 15 Wolston St, Sumner, 4074.

WaCC is partnering with BCC to organise a fun morning with a range of stalls and events. This event is funded by the Federal Government Urban Rivers Grant.

  • Join us for our Planting for Platypus event – reviving our riverbanks together
  • Get a free coffee, free ice cream and free sausage sizzle
  • Free wildlife show with a koala
  • Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by the Yugara Dancers
  • Help us plant 2000 native plant seedlings in the pre-dug holes
  • Tools and gloves are provided, feel free to bring your own if you have them
  • Please wear enclosed shoes, long pants, long sleeves and hat
  • Bring your own drinking water.
  • An adult family member or friend must accompany all children.

Fauna Monitoring Workshop – Find our Local Bushland Critters

Date: Sunday 18th May 2025

Time: 9:00am – 11:00am

Location: Pooh Corner Environment Centre, 100 Wolston Rd, Wacol.

WaCC is partnering with Dr Tamielle Brunt to teach locals how to locate suitable sites for placing monitoring equipment.

  • Join us for a free event an learn the value of monitoring fauna.
  • Attendees need to have a level of fitness that will allow them to walk unaided through tall grass in the local bushland; this will involve departing from the walking tracks.
  • This event is not suitable for young children.

Pooh Corner Environment Centre 10th Anniversary and Let’s Talk Platypus

Time: 5:00pm arrival for a 5:30pm start

  • 5:00pm to 5:30pm – mingle with snacks
  • 5:45pm – PCEC Anniversary Celebration, cake cutting and short presentation on PCEC.
  • 6:30pm to 7:30pm – An information session about boosting habitat for our precious platypus (Burrandul) along Bullockhead Creek with the Urban Rivers Grant – BCC.
  • 7:30pm to 8:30pm – WaCC member’s meeting (optional).

Presentation: “The Invasive Species Front Line”

Who: Guest Speaker, Reece Pianta

Date: Thursday 20th February 2025

Time: 5:30pm

Location: 100 Wolston Rd, Wacol.

  • Invasive species as a cause of biodiversity and habitat loss are a primary driver of extinction.
  • Reece Pianta is Advocacy Manager at the Invasive Species Council.
  • Reece holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Qld University and is an experienced public policy campaigner in both government and non-government roles.
